Goals

G 1 Mathematics Goal

By spring 2023, we will improve K-12 mathematics, with a particular emphasis on grades 5-8 and high school mathematics. While we will support mathematics improvements across all grade bands, we will focus the majority of our change initiatives on the middle grades and high school.

Performance Measure

Increase the success rate for TNReady mathematics in grades 6th-8th to 27% and maintain level 5 growth. Increase success rate for the following: 5th Grade to 28%, 6th Grade to 23%, 7th Grade to 23%, and 8th Grade to 30%.

Increase the success rate for TNReady mathematics in high school to 17.5% and increase growth to level 3. Increase success rate for the following: Algebra I to 12%, Algebra II to 15%, and Geometry to 24%.

S 1.1 Improving student outcomes in mathematics by extending learning and/or increasing opportunities.

The district will increase student outcomes in mathematics by providing students with more opportunities. These extended opportunities include before and after school tutoring, summer learning, AP Access For All, family and community engagement activities, ACT initiatives, increasing access to high quality teachers, and student schedules.

Benchmark Indicator

The strategy will be measured by evaluating the following data: tutoring offerings and student participation, summer learning offerings and student participation, student outcomes on benchmark assessments/TNReady of students participating in tutoring and/or summer learning, participation and success rate in AP Access For All, family and community engagement opportunities and participation, surveys from family and community engagement activities, ACT outcomes, Ready Graduates, and the number of certified high school math teachers in Marion County schools.

S 1.2 Common Formative Assessments

In grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, common assessments will be developed and delivered throughout the school year. The assessments will be delivered three times through out the school year. The assessments will be aligned to the rigor and expectations of the standards, instructional shifts, and TNReady. The assessments will work in concert with the courses pacing guide. Data from the assessments will be used to assess student mastery, drive future instruction, drive PLCs, and guide data discussions.

G 2 English Language Arts Goal

By spring 2023, we will improve K-12 ELA, with a particular emphasis on grades 4-5, 7-8, and English I and II. While we will support ELA improvements across all grade bands, we will focus the majority of our change initiatives on the grades listed above.

Performance Measure

Increase the success rate for TNReady ELA in grades 3-5 to 36% and maintain level 5 growth. Increase success rate for the following: 4th Grade to 34% and 5th Grade to 30%.

Increase the growth for TNReady ELA in grades 6-8 to a level 4. Increase success rate for the following: 7th Grade to 29% and 8th Grade to 24.7%.

Increase the growth for TNReady ELA in high school to a level 4. Increase success rate for the following: English I to 31.2% and English II to 42.4%.

G 3 Students with Disabilities

By spring 2023, we will improve student outcomes for students with disabilities. While it is a goal to improve at all grade bands, particular emphasis will be on ELA in grades 3-5 and 6-8. In math, emphasis will be on all grade levels. The graduation rate of students with disabilities will improve to meet or exceed the state average and to meet the APR graduation target. The dropout rate will decrease to meet the APR target. By spring of 2023 we will improve in post-school outcomes of SWDs enrolled in higher education, competitively employed, or enrolled in higher education or other post-secondary training; or competitively employed or in some other employment.

Performance Measure

Performance will be measured by TNReady:

  • Increase ELA 3-5 success rate to 15%
  • Increase ELA 6-8 success rate to 11%
  • Increase 3-5 Math success rate to 15%

S 3.1 Improving student outcomes by providing materials and supports to improve both ELA and Math

The district will provide high quality instructional materials and provide professional development to ensure teachers are equipped to differentiate lessons and units in both ELA and math. This will be supported with training administrators and teachers on coaching cycles and lesson internalization.

Benchmark Indicator

Several indicators will be used to measure the effectiveness of the strategy. The benchmark indicators include the following: Observational data from academic walks, data from quarterly benchmarks, notes and evidence from Coaching Cycles, surveys from professional development, TEAM evaluations, and TNReady results.
